Day 5: Places to visit in Mexico City. Coyoacán and San Ángel

After making many of the visits to do in Mexico City a couple of days ago, today we will focus on two areas of the city that will take us to meet several places to visit in Mexico City, as Mexico City was previously known and that we don't want to get lost and more today, that we will spend the day accompanied by two very friends specials.

With one day of the most complete ahead, we go up to the terrace of the Zócalo Central hotel, our accommodation in Mexico City these days for breakfast, although today it will be somewhat lighter than usual, since one of the first things we have planned It's going to breakfast again at a very special place.

Breakfast Hotel Zócalo Central

And so, when it is 8:30 and having met at 10 in the morning in Coyoacán, one of the places to visit in the DF, we call our faithful service UBER again that for 66 pesos and 20 minutes, leaves us in front of the Frida Kahlo Museum, one of the essential places to visit in Mexico.
If you want to know this incredible place in the city, you can also do it with this tour that will take you to Coyoacán, Xochimilco and Frida Kahlo Museum or this Frida Kahlo tour through the Coyoacán neighborhood with a guide in Spanish.

We have met at 10 in the morning in Sanborns, a small shopping center in Coyoacán, so as we still have a few minutes, we take the opportunity to take a walk around the neighborhood, especially stopping at the Frida Kahlo Museum, which we will visit later and that we could say that it is one of the most visited places in Mexico City.

Frida Kahlo House Museum

We do not need more than 5 minutes to realize that Coyoacán is a place full of color and atmosphere and despite being Saturday and so soon, and its streets begin to wake up, letting us see what is beginning to cook and that we will discover as the day goes by
There are 5 minutes to 10 in the morning when we approach the one we have set as a meeting point and where Alan is already waiting for us from the well-known blog Alanxelmundo and Victoria de Nutritraveler, with whom we will spend the day knowing several of the places to visit in the DF, like Coyoacán and San Ángel, in addition to enjoying his company, conversations and as it happened later, endless laughs.
How could it be otherwise, Alan will be the one who will guide us today through the places we told him that we wanted to see in these two areas of Mexico City, although he already warned us with time, that before starting with the visits, we would go to taste a dish of Mexican gastronomy to start our meeting in the best possible way.

So after a brief conversation with which we catch up, we go straight to the Antojitos Market, where we sit at the post "Quesadillas The Best"And where could it be otherwise, we ordered some quesadillas for this second breakfast, that for 30 pesos each, we tried one of the best quesadillas in the world. And we have to say, they are exquisite and as we expected little or nothing they have to do with the Mexican cuisine that we are used to eating outside of Mexico and that although it is also very good, it surpasses it and by far.

Quesadillas The Best

This is something we wanted to comment, since it is surprising us a lot since we arrived. We could not say exactly the reason, but our idea was that the Mexican cuisine that we would find in Mexico would be very similar to what we usually eat when we are in Spain or when we go to a Mexican restaurant in any other country. Well, our experience so far (and that will continue throughout the trip) is the opposite. Although we cannot deny that all the dishes we have tried outside of Mexico have been incredible, eating here is an unparalleled experience, in which the flavors, the variety of dishes, the colors, in short everything, make every moment in which Let's sit down to eat, be a unique and unforgettable moment, making the moment of the meal, a whole party of flavors and smells.
Really, if you are lovers of Mexican cuisine, eating in Mexico is an incredible experience in itself and another of the many reasons to travel to this amazing country.

After this technical stop, and with time on our heels, we leave the Coyoacán Market to go to the House of Frida Kahlo, where we have tickets reserved for 11 in the morning.

Coyoacán Places to visit in Mexico City

10 kilometers from the center of Mexico City is Coyoacán or "coyotes place", a neighborhood that highlights its narrow and colorful streets and a lively atmosphere that make the place the perfect place and one of the places to visit in the DF that you can't miss It is also here where the famous house of Frida Kahlo is located, today a museum, which is one of the best known and most visited places in the city.

Frida Kahlo Museum

With a schedule from 10 to 17:45 (Wednesday from 11) this museum is one of the most emblematic places of Coyoacán and also the city. In this blue house Frida Kahlo was born, lived and died and is the place where many of her memories are kept alive, which make reference to her incredible life and her relationship with Diego Rivera.

Frida Kahlo Museum

Although you can buy tickets directly at the box office, there are entrance shifts and most days there are crowds to access, so if you are clear about the day you are coming to Coyoacán, it is best to book them through the website and thus ensure the day and time of entry.
The price is 120 pesos per person, during the week, and 140 pesos on weekends. You can take pictures in the garden and outdoors for free, but if you want to take pictures inside you must pay 40 pesos extra per person.

In the tour of the Blue House you can see several of the rooms of the house, such as Diego's room, the kitchen, Frida's studio, his room and many of his works, which hang on the walls as true symbols and characters of this house

Frida Kahlo Room

Frida Kahlo studio

Although we can really say that the character of Frida Kahlo is quite controversial and on multiple occasions as loved as hated by many, there is no doubt that the Frida Kahlo Museum is one of the places to visit in the DF that you can not miss and that we are sure, will bring you a little closer to the life of this incredible woman. In short, as Alan says "Probably the best work of Krisa Kahlo, she was herself".

Live life

"Feet for what I want them if I have wings pa'volar"

At the end of the tour of the Blue House you can visit two rooms where you can see, in addition to several of the corsets that he had to use throughout his life, several of his dresses displayed in showcases.

Frida Kahlo Museum

After the visit to the Frida Kahlo Museum, we take the opportunity to enjoy the garden area, while we have a long conversation about the place and what it represents, to decide between all that we will continue the day visiting the Trotsky Lion House Museum, closely related with Diego and Frida and that the 4 of us have great interest in knowing.

Trotsky Lion House Museum

Leon Trotsky's house, which today is a museum, is practically preserved as the day he was killed. Although less visited than the Blue House of Frida Kahlo, we believe it is a perfect complement, as well as being the perfect excuse to tour Coyoacán and enjoy one of the most interesting neighborhoods in Mexico City.
With a schedule from 10 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon, from Tuesday to Sunday and a price of 40 pesos per person and 20 for taking photos, this visit will take you less than 1 hour and you can visit different rooms of the house, in addition to the room in which Leon Trotsky was when they tried to assassinate him and in which the bullet holes are still preserved.

After the visit, as we did in the Frida Kahlo Museum, we stayed in the garden area, where we walked through it with tranquility, looking at every detail, exchanging opinions of what was seen in the tour and approaching the place where it was they find the ashes of Trotsky.

After this visit, we decided together to approach another of the most emblematic places of Coyoacán, returning on our steps to go to the Plaza Hidalgo and the Centennial Garden, where we passed this morning first thing and now we want to discover and travel together to Alan and Victoria.
But before, how could it be otherwise, we get lost among the colorful and narrow streets of the neighborhood, finding ourselves with real jewels on the promenade, which remind us that Mexico City is one of the places to which we will surely return when let's go back to Mexico.
And from that tour, in addition to the places we travel and long conversations, we take the indelible memory of the company and two gifts as photographs of Alan, which we keep as part of this trip to Mexico.

Hidalgo Square and the Centennial Garden

We could say, without fear of being wrong, that Plaza Hidalgo and the Centennial Garden are the nerve center of Coyoacán and that place where at one time or another of your walk through the neighborhood, you will end up passing by and wait, taking a few minutes to get to know it and above all, live it.
It is also in the Centennial Garden where the famous sculptures of the coyotes are found in the central fountain and where many inhabitants meet to spend a pleasant time in this area of the city.

Centennial Garden

In the nearby Plaza Hidalgo, larger than the previous one and cobblestone, it is where we will probably find the most lively area, where young and old walk and enjoy one of the busiest and most colorful places in the neighborhood.

Hidalgo Square

We spent almost an hour in this area of the city, enjoying the views, conversations, laughs and recording moments of Alan, who shows us again that behind that funny and traveler boy we see in his videos, there is a great professional, committed to his ideas, with an incredible gift of speech, which is also a great person.
While Alan is recording, Victoria and we continue walking, talking and above all, enjoying a day that is being the most intense and exciting, not only for the places we are visiting, but also for whom we are sharing.

Alan recording for a video of Coyoacán

Being in this area of Coyoacán, we take the opportunity to visit the Parish of San Juan Bautista, south of the Plaza Hidalgo, where we walk inside, especially looking at the ornamentation that is on all the walls.

After this time and with this morning's quesadilla on the feet after the morning tour, we have to decide which place will be used to rest and also to eat in Coyoacán. We value several options and following Alan's recommendation, we decided on the Los Danzantes restaurant, in the Centennial Garden Square, where we ordered as starters some duck tacos and holy leaf and as main courses a black chiquilo, some duck enchiladas to both moles and ravioli, in addition to a dessert corn cake, which we have to confess, are exquisite. And we speak in the plural since in the end, although they were individual dishes, we have all ended up eating everything and enjoying an incredible meal, where laughter and conversation have been the protagonists, both in the food and in the long table.

It's almost 4 in the afternoon when we finish the visit to Coyoacán, heading to another of the places to visit in the DF and that is none other than the Barrio de San Ángel.

Things that happen when you go to eat with two travel bloggers ...

This tour of Coyoacán has taken us through some of the places to visit in Mexico City better known as Plaza Hidalgo and the Centennial Garden, the Blue House, which is the Frida Kahlo Museum and the Trotsky Lion House Museum.

Initially the idea is to walk from Coyoacán to San Ángel, but when we look at the time and see that getting there it will take us practically an hour and more taking into account what we are the bloggers that we are stopping at each corner to take pictures , we decided that it is best to choose UBER again and thus gain some time to know more quietly San Angel, where we arrive when it is 4:30 in the afternoon.

San Angel neighborhood

12 kilometers from downtown Mexico City we find San Ángel, a neighborhood that, like Coyoacán, was once a town around the city. Today we can say that it is a neighborhood of the city itself, in which a well-known craft market is held on Saturdays, for which it is also well known.

San Angel neighborhood

San Jacinto Square

San Ángel's nerve center, especially on Saturdays, the Plaza San Jacinto, is filled with color with the attractive handicraft market that is mounted in the square, in addition to the lovely shops that are in the surroundings, in which the only gesture of Looking at the shop windows is a sight to behold, since crafts, mostly made by local hands, are an incredible example of the art that is breathed in these streets.

San Jacinto Square

The idea is to enjoy this area of Mexico City getting lost in its streets and shops to learn a little more about this aspect of the city and San Ángel, something that we have to recognize that we are very good, especially Victoria, who If it does not become for store hours and closing, we would still be buying. Although we understand it perfectly and it is that it is incredibly difficult not to do it in any of the stores that we find in our path and in which in each of them, we see a piece that we would be happy to take home.
And how could it be otherwise, during the walk, we also have time to return to Mexican cuisine, in this case trying for the first time since we started this trip to Mexico for free, the carafe ice cream, which in summary and much, It is an ice cream that is great and from now on, together with the corn cake, will be part of our diet on this trip.

San Jacinto Square. Places to visit in Mexico City

After a long walk through San Angel, we make another stop with the excuse of resting but that helps us to return to the conversations accompanied by coffee and a piece of cake.

When our stomach asks for attention again, we approach the local Taquearte, known for its tacos, where we ask as a starter a cheese crackling, plus a variety of tacos, which we have to say, are spectacular and that is where we also tried for the first Once the tacos al pastor, another of the dishes that will be part of our trip from this moment.

Tacos al pastor in Taquearte

And so, when we have finished dinner and it is practically 11 at night, it is time to say goodbye to Alan and Victoria, with a sound bye. And it is that we are firmly convinced that our paths will cross again in the world and we are sure that this will happen soon.
Although we would have loved to extend the day, we must pay attention to the head and not to the heart, since tomorrow we leave early for our new destination.

We return to the Zócalo Central hotel, where we will spend the last night of our stay in Mexico City, a city that has given us the best start of the trip we had ever imagined.

We cannot finish this post without giving infinite thanks for today. For the long and interesting conversations, for the endless laughs, for the long walks, for everything we have learned, for all the moments and few silences. In short, for having shared this day with two people with whom we know, we will coincide at any other time and it will be to continue laughing and giving thanks to life.

Thanks Alan for being the way you are. I wish everyone had your professionalism, ideals and integrity as a person. We are sure that if this were the case, this world would be much better.
Thank you Victoria for giving us those many wrinkles with which we have finished the day. Life by your side is much easier. I love you.

Of this incredible day in Mexico City, knowing Coyoacán and San Ángel, two of the places to visit in the DF, Alan recorded two videos, What to do in Coyoacán and My foreign friends try the tacos, in which he explains how our day went, in addition to explaining in greater detail, all the places we visited throughout the day.
Victoria wrote "Mexico City, I breathed you and I fell in love", which we recommend you read to understand a little more the sensations that this city causes is travelers.
